We wanted to make you aware of some activity you may see on the beach strand this weekend.  Norfolk Dredging Company (NDC), the contractor doing the Surf City beach nourishment project, reached out yesterday and has requested permission to move some equipment down our beach and around the point to the soundside to assemble pipeline.

This Saturday or Sunday, they plan to move two (2) front end loaders, along with a single salvaged piece of pipe, down the beach and around the point where they will set up on the shoreline. Over the following approximately 5 days they will be bolting pipelines together into 2,000 ft long sections to be floated off and towed into place in Banks Channel to begin their project. This is the exact method and location they used last year during our beach nourishment project.

Once the assembly of the pipeline is complete (approximately next Thursday or Friday) the loaders will travel back up the beach to Surf City.  During this entire process, all equipment will be below the high-water mark so there is no disturbance to the upland beach or dunes. Although access to the beach and sound will remain open and accessible, for your safety, please avoid any area where equipment is, and work is taking place.

We believe it’s important to be a good municipal neighbor and assist Surf City in any way that helps them with their beach nourishment efforts.
