Governor Stein’s signing of SB 889 into law has caused a Moratorium for Property Tax Reappraisals to go into effect for some counties, including Pender County. With this law, the Town will now need to adopt budget and set a tax rate based on the FY25/26 property values.

The Board of Commissioners will hold a Special Meeting to:

• Discuss, Consider, and Vote on Rescinding the June 10, 2026, Vote to Set the Tax Rate for FY26-27 at $0.2265 per $100 valuation, with $0.1487 to the General Fund, $0.0684 to the BIS Fund, and $0.0094 to the Capital Improvement Fund and Vote to Adopt Budget Ordinance for FY26-27
• Discuss, Consider, and Vote on Update FY 2026-2027 Budget Ordinance and Set Tax Rate per SB 889: Property Tax Reappraisal Moratorium

The Proposed FY 26/27 Tax Rate will be the same as the FY 25/26 Tax Rate ($00.48/per $100 valuation). Many property owners can expect to see the same tax amount due for your 2026 Tax Bills as your 2025 Tax Bills, with few exceptions for homes that had permitted work.

The Board will also hold public comment on these Agenda Items.

Following the adoption of the Updated FY 26/27 Budget Ordinance and Tax Rate, the Board will hold a Closed Session per G.S. 143-318.11(a)(6) – To discuss a personnel matter.
